  "What service really means: As a long term REALTOR, I know many mortgage professionals. When the time came recently to purchase a condo for my wife and myself, I chose Joe Spisak of Amerihome Mortgage. I trusted him and liked the thorough, professional style he exhibited over the years with several of my fellow agents. Joe rewarded my choice with quality services that went far beyond my high expectations. As noted below, if it weren't for Joe, my closing may have been totally sabotaged by an incompetent title company employee. The loan application process is by its nature highly technical and somewhat demanding upon the applicants. Joe kept the process moving smoothly with secure internet access to all the necessary forms and prompt follow-up by his staff. Thanks to his persistence, the loan approval and the funds to close were sent to the title company ahead of the scheduled closing. We were confident of a fast closing. I was pleased to see Joe at the closing. but expected that he would just provide token support and pleasantries. When it turned out that the inexperienced closer was turning the process into a nightmare, Joe stepped in to get the job done. He got the key decision makers from the lender on the phone when the closer was unable to do so. He also documented and sorted out (more than once) how the gift money that we had received factored into the funds to close. Essentially he guided the closer through the closing process. Understand that this was a major, very well established title company. Our 'fast' closing had turned into a three and a half hour ordeal. Lucky for us, Joe stuck with us to the end. This was my wife's first closing in 25 years, and she was amazed at how important Joe was to the transaction. That night she said "If it weren't for Joe, we would still be at the closing". She suggested that I write this note and she totally endorses its contents. In my experience, home buyers mistakenly focus only on the mortgage rates when shopping for funding. That's understandable because rates are easy to compare while service is hard to quantify. As a mortgage broker/banker with many sources of funds to tap into, Joe got us a very competitive rate (a quarter point below where we were locked) and he would have dropped us further if rates changed in our favor. His fees were quite reasonable and there were no surprise or 'junk fees'. However, it was his service throughout the process that was so remarkable. I hope that this unsolicited testimonial will reassure other potential buyers, that there are excellent mortgage professionals who do make a difference. Joe Spisak is one of them. In the interest of full disclosure, I want to emphasize that I have NO cozy business relationship with Joe. When my clients ask about lenders, I always give three names to avoid any conflict of interests. As a consumer advocate, I suggest that buyers interview each potential lender to find one who listens well, explains thoroughly, and makes them comfortable. Joe is definitely worth such a call. He attends all his closings, so the extra service that I got could well be yours. I hope you don't need the help, but it's great to know he'll be there, just in case."
